A deadly fire broke out late Saturday night at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular nightclub in Arpora, Goa, killing 23 people. Most victims were kitchen workers, including three women and some tourists. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said three died from burn injuries, while others died from suffocation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on X, saying, "The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest." He also confirmed he spoke to CM Sawant about the situation. The state government is providing all possible help to those affected. The PMO announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of each deceased, and ₹50,000 to the injured. The incident has shocked the coastal state, which is still reeling from the tragic loss.
