Goa Chief Minister Orders Inquiry After Nightclub Fire Kills 25
December 7, 2025
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the tragic fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora village. The fire broke out after midnight on December 7, 2025, claiming 25 lives and injuring six others. "I am closely reviewing the situation arising from the tragic fire incident at Arpora, in which 25 people have lost their lives and six have been injured," Mr. Sawant said in a post on X. He added, "All six injured persons are in a stable condition and are receiving the best medical care. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident to identify the cause and fix responsibility." The police have registered an FIR against the nightclub's owner and general manager, who are set to be arrested. This is the first fire tragedy of this scale in Goa. A preliminary inquiry suggests the fire started on the first floor of the club. Due to congestion and small exit doors, customers struggled to escape. "Some of them rushed to the ground floor and got trapped there," Mr. Sawant stated. Birch by Romeo Lane is a popular party venue that opened last year in Arpora, around 25 km from Panaji, Goa’s capital.
