Five Thane Municipal Employees Booked for Losing Vital Town Planning File
December 7, 2025
Five employees of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) have been booked after a vital development proposal file disappeared from the Town Planning department, police said on December 7, 2025.
The missing file came to light 18 months ago when a resident filed a Right to Information (RTI) request seeking certified copies of documents related to the proposal. Following the RTI, the applicant appealed to the Konkan bench of the State Information Commission (SIC), prompting a probe. During the investigation, TMC admitted the file was untraceable and later filed an affidavit blaming negligence of junior staff.
The accused personnel include a record keeper and a peon who passed away in November 2022, another record keeper and peon, and two clerks. They were booked based on a complaint from a TMC executive engineer.
They face charges under the Maharashtra Public Records Act 2005. The offense is believed to have occurred between January 27, 2022, and December 4, 2025. The police investigation continues, and no arrests have been made so far.
