A 75-year-old man from Habsiguda, Hyderabad, lost ₹1,09,610 in a scam linked to fake D-Mart offers on Facebook, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police reported. The victim saw an advertisement promising groceries for ₹298 and entered his contact details. On November 24 at 4:30 p.m., an unknown caller confirmed the order and sent an APK file via WhatsApp. The victim installed the file and entered his SBI credit card details to pay ₹298. Soon after, his phone stopped responding and multiple OTPs appeared. He alerted his son, and the cards were blocked immediately. Banks later confirmed three unauthorized transactions worth ₹1,09,610. Police said fraudsters use fake ads with low prices to trap users. They send malicious APK files disguised as order confirmations. When installed, these allow hackers remote access to devices and steal financial information. Officials warn people not to click suspicious links, avoid installing APKs from unknown numbers, and verify offers only through official company apps or websites. They stress, "Card details, OTPs and passwords should not be shared with anyone over calls or messages."
