Long-Time Aide of Russian Opposition Leader Navalny Attacked in Lithuania

Leonid Volkov, a prominent figure and long-time aide to late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, was attacked in Vilnius, Lithuania. According to former Navalny spokesperson Kira Yarmysh, the assault took place on March 12 outside Volkov’s house. The attacker broke a car window, sprayed tear gas in Volkov’s eyes, and proceeded to hit him with a hammer. Yarmysh shared images showing Volkov with a bruise on his forehead, blood from a leg wound, and damage to the vehicle’s door and window. Lithuanian police have been informed and are investigating the incident. The Anti-Corruption Foundation, which includes Volkov, is based in Lithuania after members fled Russia.
