A fire broke out after midnight on Sunday at a nightclub in North Goa, killing 25 people and injuring six. Among the victims were Pradeep Mahto (24) and Vinod Mahto (20) from Fatehpur village, Lapung near Ranchi, Jharkhand, along with Mohit Munda (22) from Govindpur village, Khunti district. The news came as a shock to their families around 2 a.m. via phone calls from fellow workers in Goa. Phagu Mahto (32), brother of Pradeep and Vinod, said, "I lost both my brothers – Pradeep and Vinod. We came to know about it when we received the call from Nishan Kumar. My father, Dhaneshwar Mahto, is in a state of shock and has been staring blank ever since." The brothers had migrated to Goa 10-12 months ago and sent ₹30,000 monthly to support their family. They were unmarried and planned to celebrate Holi with their family next year. Mohit Munda's family also received the devastating news early Sunday. His brother Sunil said, "I received a phone call around 2 a.m. and all hell broke loose...We got the devastating news of my brother's death from an acquaintance who worked in a nearby hotel." Their father, Etwa Manda, remains in shock. Locals said many youths from Jharkhand migrated to Goa seeking work, raising concerns about their safety and livelihood. Villagers urged the Jharkhand government to secure jobs locally. Jharkhand's State Migrant Control Room is coordinating with employers in Goa and arranging for post-mortem exams and the return of victims' bodies. Team lead Shikha Lakra stated, "We are in constant touch with the families of the victims. Our officials in Goa are in touch with the migrant workers and employers who have arranged ambulances for bodies to be taken to the hospital. Post mortem examinations are being conducted. We will arrange for bringing back the bodies to the villages." Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren expressed deep grief over the tragedy. Hemant tweeted, "The news of several people dying in a massive fire at a nightclub in Goa is extremely heartbreaking. May Marang Buru grant peace to the souls of the departed and give strength to the grieving families to endure this hour of sorrow." Kalpana said, "Hearing the news of several people losing their lives in this accident has left me deeply distressed." Jharkhand Minister Irfan Ansari demanded a high-level probe into the fire. He called for strict action against those responsible and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure proper compensation for the victims' families. The blaze occurred at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora village, about 25 km from Panaji. It caused massive loss of lives and injuries in this tragic accident.
