The YSR Congress and Indian National Congress announced on December 7, 2025, that they will move adjournment motions in Parliament regarding the sexual abuse of a first-year student at National Sanskrit University (NSU) in Tirupati. MPs M. Gurumoorthy (Tirupati) and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka (Koraput) will separately move these motions on December 8, demanding justice for the victim. The 22-year-old woman from Odisha said an assistant professor harassed her. After filing a complaint with university authorities, she returned home. The university’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) investigated and found the charges true. Based on the ICC report, the NSU Registrar filed a complaint against the professor with the Tirupati West police. The accused faces charges under sections 75 (1) for sexual harassment, 77 for voyeurism, 79 for insulting the modesty of a woman, and 351 (2) with 3(5) of the BNS Act. The university came under criticism for inaction for nearly twelve days. The Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee reportedly ignored the victim's complaint filed on November 24 with the warden. In her complaint, the woman said the assistant professor had intimate videos of her and used them to blackmail and harass her. She also said her parents called her back home because of the incident, forcing her to stop studying. Another assistant professor, who saw the videos, allegedly demanded sexual favors, pushing her to report the matter to the university. Talking to The Hindu, Dr. M. Gurumoorthy, a physiotherapist and MP, called the incident “extremely unfortunate” and harmful to campus safety. He said, “The incident that happened in the holy city of Tirupati is unpardonable. We have taken the issue to the notice of the National Commission for Women (NCW) as well as the Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan to initiate a detailed probe into the allegations and render justice to the aggrieved student.”
