Father Antony Kattiparambil Ordained 36th Bishop of Kochi in Grand Ceremony

Father Antony Kattiparambil was ordained the 36th Bishop of Kochi on Sunday. The big ceremony was held at Parade Ground in Fort Kochi. Thousands of people, including religious and political leaders, attended the event.
The ordination was led by Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao, Archbishop of Goa and Daman. He was joined by Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil and Bishop Emeritus Joseph Kariyil. Mar Joseph Pamplany, Archbishop of Thalassery, delivered the homily.
Important figures present included Apostolic Nuncio Leopoldo Girelli and Major Archbishop Raphael Thattil. Other religious leaders like Archbishop Andrews Thazhath and Archbishop Varghese Chakkalakal spoke at the event. A message from Patriarch of Lisbon Rui Manuel Sousa Valério was read aloud by Fr. David Nanatt.
Around 40 bishops and hundreds of clergy members attended. Political leaders including Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, MLAs K.J. Maxy, T.J. Vinod, K. Babu, Daleema Jojo, Mayor M. Anilkumar, MPs Hibi Eden, Jeby Mather, and Kerala government representative K.V. Thomas were also present.
The Bishop of Kochi post was vacant since March 2, 2024. Bishop Joseph Kariyil resigned after reaching 75, the official retirement age for Catholic bishops.
