The capital district of Thiruvananthapuram recorded a dip in voter turnout for the local body elections compared to 2020. The district administration reported a 67.42% turnout, lower than the 70.02% five years ago. Out of 29,12,773 registered voters, 19,63,684 people voted.
Male voters numbered 13,53,215, with 9,14,228 (67.56%) voting. Among 15,59,526 women voters, 10,49,334 (67.29%) voted. Seventeen of the 32 transgender voters (53.12%) also cast their ballots.
In the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, turnout was 58.24%. Out of 8,14,967 voters, 4,74,620 voted, including 2,31,606 (59.73%) men, 2,43,004 (56.89%) women, and 10 of 15 transgender voters (66.67%).
Among municipalities, Neyyattinkara saw the highest turnout at 70.36%, followed by Nedumangad at 70.28%. Attingal recorded 68.87%, and Varkala had the lowest turnout at 66.39%.
For block panchayats, Perumkadavila led with 73.94%, while Varkala was lowest at 68.65%. Other block panchayat turnouts were Nemom 71.69%, Pothencode 69.98%, Vellanad 72.45%, Nedumangad 69.74%, Vamanapuram 70.11%, Kilimanoor 71.06%, Chirayinkeezhu 69.09%, Athiyannoor 73.47%, and Parassala 71.17%.
There were 3,264 polling stations and 6,310 candidates contesting 90 local body posts. Candidates included 2,992 men, 3,317 women, and one transgender candidate.
Polling in the Vizhinjam ward was postponed due to the death of a candidate. The State Election Commission will announce a new date for voting.
