December 11, 2025
The Kalaburagi City Police have solved a major house break-in and theft case reported at Eshwar Nagar Layout. Officials recovered gold and silver ornaments worth about ₹20.40 lakh and arrested the accused within days. Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa said this quick success was thanks to teamwork across police divisions.
The case began when 65-year-old retired government employee Eeranna Y. Pattedar locked his house on November 20 to visit family. He returned on November 22 to find the door lock broken and valuables missing from his almirah. The stolen items included gold chains, necklaces, lockets, mangalsutras, bangles, earrings, rings, silver pooja articles, and ₹60,000 in cash, totaling ₹20,62,000.
A complaint led to an investigation supervised by senior officers including Deputy Commissioners Kanika Siktaeval and Praveen Naik. Inspector Gurulingappa M. Patil led a special team that tracked the accused to Pune.
The burglar was identified as 49-year-old Naveen Joshi, a cook from Dharwad district, now living in Pune's Kalwad Basti. He confessed to the crime and police recovered 230 gm of real gold worth ₹20.40 lakh among 400 gm of ornaments. The rest were brass pooja items and some fake jewelry the accused tried to mix with stolen goods. Police also found tools and a small gas cylinder used to melt ornaments.
Using CCTV footage and mobile phone location data, police traced Joshi’s route. Joshi had traveled to Solapur and Pune after the theft. He took a train towards Kanyakumari but without a ticket, and the ticket examiner forced him off at Kalaburagi station. It was there he chose the locked house and stole the valuables. Joshi wore gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints.
Commissioner Sharanappa noted Joshi had a past conviction in Raichur and served three years in Kalaburagi Central Prison. This fast police action brought justice and recovered valuable stolen property.
