Dubai Police Issues Urgent Rainy Weather Alert with Road Safety Guidelines
December 14, 2025
On Saturday evening, 13 December 2025, Dubai Police General Command issued a public safety alert. The message warned of unstable and rainy weather expected across the emirate. The alert was sent directly to mobile phones and shared widely on media. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and cooler temperatures in the coming days. Authorities confirmed full preparedness to handle emergencies, including traffic accidents and incidents in mountainous areas and valleys. Residents are urged to drive very carefully and follow official advice as conditions change. For help during the weather event, two contact lines are provided: 999 for life-threatening emergencies, and 901 for non-emergency reports or inquiries.
Authorities stress that bad weather greatly increases accident risks. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police issued strict driving rules: slow down to avoid skidding; keep a gap of at least five seconds between vehicles; use low-beam headlights and fog lights in poor visibility; and check your car's tires, brakes, headlights, and windshield wipers before driving. Not using lights or filming rain while driving is punishable by fines and black points on your license.
Flash floods and strong sea currents pose serious dangers. People must avoid valleys, water channels, and flood-prone areas. Even 12 inches of fast-moving water can sweep a car away. Standing near or entering these areas can lead to heavy fines and penalties. The public is also warned not to visit beaches or go sailing during rough seas. Marine vessel operators must monitor weather updates and follow safety instructions strictly.
Ignoring these warnings and entering closed or flooded roads can result in steep fines, many black points, and vehicle impoundment. Dubai Police and RTA emphasize that safety starts with the public. Following these rules helps protect lives and allows emergency services to focus on urgent cases.
