The District and Sessions Court in Yadgir made news on Sunday as judges, advocates, court staff, and a differently abled person donated blood together. A total of 28 people took part in this rare event. It was held by Karnataka Legal Services Authority (KSLA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), health and welfare departments, Yadgir Institute of Medical Sciences (YIMS), and the NGO Association for Persons with Disabilities. The event celebrated Universal Health Coverage Day and the International Day for Differently Abled. Equipment was also distributed to those in need. Civil Judge and Member-Secretary of DLSA Mariyappa said the blood donors sent a strong message: judicial officers and advocates want to help society beyond justice delivery. "Principal District and Sessions Judge H.J. Marulasiddaradhya put in efforts to organise the programme to distribute equipment and also inspired us to donate blood to help society," he said. The Karnataka High Court's Administrative Judge K.S. Hemalekha distributed equipment to 23 differently abled persons who joined a health camp earlier in October. Sources said this is likely the first time judicial officers, court staff, and advocates participated in a mass blood donation camp to support community welfare. The District Bar Association helped make the event a success. Its president R.S. Patil addressed blood donation myths: "There is a misunderstanding about blood donation. It is not correct. Nothing is harmful, if a healthy person donates blood. Our advocate friends voluntarily donated blood."
