Saudi Arabia Braces for Snowfall and Storms Across Key Regions This Week
December 17, 2025
Saudi Arabia may see snow this week, with Qassim, Tabuk, Hail, and northern Riyadh in the snowfall zone. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) warns residents to stay alert as the weather system spreads. Snow could begin on Wednesday in Tabuk and Hail highlands, where temperatures may drop below zero degrees Celsius.
Qassim and northern Riyadh face a high chance of snowfall on Thursday. The region was under a red warning for heavy rain and possible floods for three days.
NCM spokesperson Hussein Al-Qahtani said, "Monday saw mostly light, continuous rainfall in Riyadh," but some areas had moderate to heavy showers with hail in the evening. Riyadh recorded up to 12 mm of rain, and the King Khalid Royal Reserve saw 24 mm.
Al-Qahtani stressed, "Social media videos showing flooding were inaccurate," urging the public to rely only on official weather updates.
Thunderstorms are forecast in Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Northern Borders. They bring moderate to heavy rain, risk of flash floods, hail, and strong gusty winds. Moderate rain will also fall in Tabuk, Al-Jouf, Hail, and Qassim, with possible fog in some spots.
Weather will vary from partly cloudy to cloudy, with rain clouds building over western and southwestern areas.
The Red Sea will face strong northwesterly to northerly winds at 25–50 km/h in some parts, with gusts over 60 km/h during storms. Waves could reach 2.5 meters, creating moderate to rough sea conditions. Similarly, the Arabian Gulf will see winds of 15–40 km/h, with gusts above 60 km/h and waves over 2.5 meters.
The NCM keeps watching the weather closely. Authorities advise everyone to follow official news, take precautions, and stay safe as rain, hail, snow, and strong winds affect large parts of Saudi Arabia.
