Indian Coast Guard Catches Two Bangladeshi Boats for Illegal Fishing in Bay of Bengal
December 18, 2025
On December 16, 2025, the Indian Coast Guard Ship Anmol caught two Bangladeshi fishing boats with 35 crew members while on routine patrol in the Northern Bay of Bengal. These boats were fishing illegally inside India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The Coast Guard reported this on December 18. The fishing boats had active fishing gear and about 500 kilograms of fish, clearly showing illegal activity under the Maritime Zones of India Act, 1981. After interception, the boats and crew were handed over to Marine Police at Frazerganj on December 17 for legal action. This action shows the Indian Coast Guard’s strong efforts to protect India’s seas, stop illegal fishing, and keep Indian fishermen safe. In the last three months, eight Bangladeshi boats with 170 crew members were caught for similar violations. The Coast Guard continues strict patrols to enforce maritime laws and protect marine resources in India’s waters.
