Car Explosion Kills 2 Traffic Police Near Site of Russian General’s Assassination in Moscow
December 24, 2025
Two traffic police officers and one other person died in a car explosion in Moscow early Wednesday, the Russian Investigative Committee said. The blast took place near the site of a recent assassination of a senior Russian general, Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov. Sarvarov was killed on Monday when a bomb exploded under his car in southern Moscow on Yaseneva Street around 7 a.m. Russian investigators suspect Ukrainian intelligence services carried out the assassination. Television images showed a large police presence and a cordoned-off area. Witnesses reported the explosion happened at about 1:30 a.m. Russian officials and pro-war voices call for fast retaliation after this is the third bombing in Moscow within a year to kill a senior Russian military officer linked to the Ukraine invasion. Reuters will provide more updates.
