Two people died in a road accident on Saturday near Sainagunda village, close to Gudiyatham town in Vellore. A lorry carrying 15 tonnes of poultry feed overturned on a steep hilly road at the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border. The victims were K. Devi, a 45-year-old dairy farmer, and Mohammed Inayatullah, 56, the lorry driver from Andhra Pradesh. According to police, Inayatullah had loaded the poultry feed from a farm in Palamaner village, A.P., and was headed to a poultry farm in Thirukovilur town. While driving through the remote Sainagunda village, the driver saw Devi, who was taking her cows for grazing. As he tried to steer the vehicle away from the cows, he lost control, causing the lorry to overturn. Both Inayatullah and Devi died on the spot. Nearby motorists and passersby quickly alerted the Gudiyatham Taluk police, who arrived promptly. The bodies were sent to Government Taluk Hospital for postmortem. Authorities cleared the mangled lorry to restore traffic and have registered a case. An investigation is ongoing.
