A 41-year-old woman named Geetha died on January 6 night in Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru. She had over 50% burn injuries after being set on fire. Police said a man named Muthu Abhimanyu, 31, attacked her because she refused to marry him. The incident happened in Bhovi Colony, where Geetha ran a provision store and Muthu ran a tea stall. The three lived in the same house: Geetha, her 19-year-old daughter, and Muthu. Police found that Muthu pressured Geetha to marry him. When she refused, he poured petrol on her and lit her on fire. Geetha was taken to the hospital but died after 20 days of treatment. The Basaveshwaranagar police arrested Muthu and first charged him with attempted murder. After Geetha’s death, the case was changed to murder.
