A strong storm hit Istanbul on Thursday, bringing fierce winds, towering waves, and big disruption. A Pegasus flight had to abort its landing at Istanbul Airport because of the severe weather. The plane struggled to stay balanced and could not land safely. Videos of this went viral on social media. Other videos showed violent lodos winds rocking boats and creating rough sea conditions. The Turkish State Meteorological Service warned about gale-force winds early morning. Winds grew stronger over the Bosphorus and Marmara Sea, reported Hurriyet Daily News. In Besiktas, huge waves hit the coast, making it dangerous. Sea travel stopped as rough waters made sailing impossible. The Besiktas–Kadiköy passenger boat service was suspended. Several ferry lines also canceled trips. In Bakirköy, a tree fell on four vehicles by the coastal road, closing a traffic lane for a while. In Bahçelievler, another fallen tree injured a pedestrian with minor injuries. Winds exceeded 70 km/h in some places. Beyond Istanbul, the Marmara and Aegean regions faced bad weather too. In Çanakkale, strong winds stopped ship traffic through the Dardanelles and canceled ferries. Edirne saw local floods caused by heavy rain. Fishermen in Izmir stayed in port due to rough seas and did maintenance work. The storm reached the Black Sea coast where strong winds toppled trees and blocked roads in Samsun.
