BJP Leaders Clash Over Bharat Scouts Event, Legal Battle Ensues in Chhattisgarh
January 9, 2026
A major conflict has erupted between senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal and Chhattisgarh's state government over the Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) National Rover-Ranger Jamboree.
The jamboree, set to host about 15,000 participants, faces uncertainty due to a dispute over who is the rightful State president of BSG. Brijmohan Agrawal claims he was elected for a five-year term and has not resigned. However, a December 2025 government order named new Cabinet Minister and MLA Gajendra Yadav as the ex officio president.
On January 6, Agrawal postponed the event citing "administrative disputes and allegations of serious financial irregularities." He stated in a press release, "It is noteworthy that MP Shri Brijmohan Agarwal is currently the State President of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Chhattisgarh and he has not resigned from his post."
Agrawal then filed a writ petition in Chhattisgarh High Court challenging his removal. His lawyer, Kishor Bhaduri, alleged illegal removal and raised concerns about funds transferred without proper tender procedures. He said, "The amount has been entrusted with the block education officer... You are shifting the venue as well."
Despite this, the state government confirmed the jamboree will proceed from January 9 to 13 in Balod.
The Opposition Congress accused the BJP government of "factionalism and corruption." Spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla said, "BJP members are fighting to take credit and share corruption involved. The jamboree was moved from Nava Raipur to Balod. Brijmohan claims presidency, while Gajendra Yadav also calls himself president."
Congress has lodged complaints with the State Anti-Corruption Bureau and Economic Offences Wing. Gajendra Yadav denied all corruption charges, calling them attempts to defame the government.
