UAE Drivers Warned of Fake Darb Toll Scam Messages Asking for Payment
January 21, 2026
Motorists in the UAE, particularly in Abu Dhabi, are receiving fake Darb toll messages. These SMS alerts claim the driver has pending toll fees and urge them to click links or reply "Y" to pay fast. Authorities warn these are scams designed to steal personal and payment data.
Reports rose recently as many drivers saw messages titled "DARB-Alert" stating small pending toll fees with threats of a Dh100 fine and points if not paid the same day. The SMS often offers a payment link that looks real and asks for reply “Y.”
Investigators found the scam messages came from phone numbers outside UAE networks. The links were not official government or Q Mobility sites. Many recipients confirmed they had no real toll dues.
On social media, users shared warnings after spotting misspelled URLs and non-government “.com” domains in the scam links. One Dubai Reddit user highlighted these errors as signs of fake messages.
Q Mobility, the operator of Abu Dhabi’s Darb toll system under ADQ, confirmed only these sources should be trusted:
- Official DARB App
- Darb website: darb.qmobility.ae
- Approved government platforms like TAMM
They warned that any message from unknown or international numbers or asking to “Reply Y” is suspicious. Official messages never use unofficial URLs or demand replies.
This scam is part of a larger phishing problem in the UAE. Abu Dhabi Police have launched awareness programs like "Be Cautious" to warn the public about online fraud, deceptive links, and phone scams. Drivers are urged to stay alert and verify toll alerts through trusted channels only.
