KARACHI: On Friday night, a huge fire erupted at a plastic factory in the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) of Landhi, Karachi. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan told Dawn that six fire tenders are currently battling the intense flames. The fire started on the ground floor and quickly spread to the first floor. Khan warned that the blaze might engulf another floor soon. Fire tenders and snorkels from across Karachi have been called to help contain the fire. So far, no casualties have been reported. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed, "Fire tenders and snorkels were present on the ground to tackle the situation. Additional water bowsers are also present. Will keep everyone posted." Sindh police chief Javed Alam Odho ordered the Malir senior superintendent of police and superintendent traffic to secure the scene and keep the surrounding area clear of traffic for fire and rescue teams. The city has seen multiple fires recently. A day before, fires broke out in six places in Karachi but were quickly put out with no casualties. Earlier this month, three cars were damaged by fire in a high-rise near Saddar’s mobile market. Last month, a tragic fire at Karachi’s Gul Plaza claimed at least 73 lives. Officials remain on high alert as they battle this dangerous fire in Landhi's EPZ.
