At least 31 people died and 169 were injured in a suicide bombing at Imambargah Khadijah-tul-Kubra in Islamabad on Friday. The explosion took place during prayers in the Tarlai area of the capital. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif suggested that both India and Afghanistan were involved, stating, "It has been proved that the terrorist involved in the attack travelled to and from Afghanistan." Muhammad Kazim, 52, said, "An extremely powerful explosion ripped through the building as prayers were just starting." He recalled hearing gunfire while in the bowing position, followed immediately by the blast. Kazim, from Gilgit-Baltistan and now living in Islamabad, escaped without injury but helped take a wounded friend to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital. He described debris falling from the roof and windows shattering. Outside, many bodies were scattered, and many people lost their lives. This tragic attack highlights continuing security challenges in the region.
