NEW DELHI: Despite global economic challenges, six Indian companies have made it to the top 100 best-performing infotech companies worldwide. The US magazine BusinessWeek released its annual list called 'The Infotech 100' based on shareholder return, return on equity, total revenue, and revenue growth. Bharti Airtel leads the Indian pack at 21st place, followed by Reddington India at 55th and Reliance Communications (RCom) at 66th. Other Indian firms on the list include Wipro at 74th, Satyam at 91st, and HCL Technologies at 95th. The list is topped by US giants Amazon.com and Apple at first and second positions respectively. However, BusinessWeek notes, "the dominance of US companies is in decline, the country has 33 companies among the IT 100 this year, down from 43 in 2007." South African telecom firm MTN Group ranks 12th, ahead of global giants IBM (13th) and Microsoft (23rd). China also has six companies featured in the top 100. BusinessWeek sorted through data from 30,500 publicly traded firms. Companies had to have revenues of at least 300 million dollars to qualify. Firms were evaluated in categories like software and semiconductors. The magazine excluded companies with falling sales, more than 75% stock price drop, or other risks. It also removed phone companies with near-monopoly power for fair competition. This list highlights strong global contenders with healthy financials and growth in the infotech world.
