February 8, 2026
Before dawn broke, Kowdiar Park in Trivandrum buzzed with energy as 90 cyclists took part in the SAKSHAM 2025-26 awareness ride. Organized by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), this cyclothon aimed to promote fuel conservation and sustainable living. The event is part of a nationwide campaign from February 1 to 15 to encourage greener energy practices.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Trivandrum, Deepak Dhankar flagged off the ride at 6 a.m. He said, "Such events are vital in cultivating a culture of sustainability." He praised the participants, which included school students and women, and urged citizens to make cycling a part of daily life for its benefits to both health and the environment.
Led by the local cycling club Cyclotrivian, the group pedaled through city landmarks like Museum, Palayam, General Hospital Road, finishing at Shanghumughom after a 13 km ride. The smooth, traffic-free roads made the journey enjoyable and took about 45 minutes.
The event brought vibrant eco-awareness to city streets. Supported by The Hindu In School, it concluded with prize distribution and a pledge by cyclists to support green practices for cleaner air and healthier living in Trivandrum.
