Kozhikode Court Defers Bail Decision for Shimjitha Musthafa in U. Deepak Death Case
February 9, 2026
The Kozhikode Sessions Court on Monday deferred its order on the bail plea of Shimjitha Musthafa, accused in the unnatural death of U. Deepak. The decision was pushed to Tuesday because the judge was on leave.
Shimjitha’s bail was earlier rejected by the Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. The prosecution argued that granting bail might affect the ongoing investigation. Shimjitha then approached the Sessions Court for bail.
Earlier, the Sessions Court also postponed the bail hearing due to the absence of the latest police investigation report. Recently, the police submitted this report to the court to support further proceedings.
U. Deepak was found dead at his home near Govindapuram, Kozhikode city, on January 18. This followed the wide circulation of a video on social media. According to police, the video showed an incident of alleged sexual harassment. It was reportedly filmed by Shimjitha during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
