Mysuru Opens India’s First Cat Museum: Jin Min Cat World
February 9, 2026
Jin Min Cat World has opened in Mysuru as India's first cat museum. It aims to teach people about cats and responsible pet care. The museum is the idea of Sharath BS, inspired by his cat Coco who died in an accident.
The museum displays many cat-related items, from ancient Egyptian figurines to famous animated cats like Tom and Doraemon. It also shares detailed information on cat breeds, their body language, vision, and care tips.
Located near Mysuru Palace, Jin Min Cat World houses around 20 cats, mostly adopted. These cats roam freely inside a special catio area connected by tunnels. The design keeps cats safe while giving them the freedom to explore.
Entry tickets cost ₹69 for children under 10 and ₹99 for others. The fees help cover running costs like food, vet care, and staff.
Sharath says Mysuru is an ideal city for the museum due to its tourist crowd and local interest. He hopes the museum will boost awareness about cats and encourage responsible adoption and care. Visitors can enjoy the museum but cannot touch cats without permission.
The museum stands out as a unique space combining education and fun for cat lovers in India, following similar models in Istanbul and Japan.
