BJP's women MPs have called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take the strongest action possible against Opposition members who caused chaos in the House. On February 4, Opposition MPs moved deep into the treasury benches, climbed tables, and surrounded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's seat. These actions stopped Modi from replying to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address. In a letter, BJP women MPs expressed concern over the "alarming turn of events" and called the day one of the "darkest moments" in India's parliamentary democracy. They praised Speaker Om Birla for protecting the dignity and order of the House despite the disruptions. The letter described how some Opposition MPs tore papers and threw them at the Chair, and some women MPs crossed over with aggressive banners. The BJP MPs noted that ruling party members showed restraint on the orders of senior leaders to avoid worsening the situation. They also highlighted that Opposition MPs later tried to enter the Speaker’s chamber, raising their voices loudly. The BJP women MPs demanded stringent action under the rules against those who disrespected Parliament and harmed the institution's reputation. They reaffirmed their full trust in Speaker Birla, praising his impartiality and leadership over his nearly seven-year tenure. The Lok Sabha has faced unrest since February 2 after Rahul Gandhi was stopped from quoting from a former Army chief's unpublished memoir. On February 5, the Motion of Thanks was passed without the Prime Minister's customary speech due to the protests. Speaker Birla revealed he had warning that Congress MPs might storm the PM’s seat, leading him to advise Modi not to attend. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra denied these claims. Meanwhile, eight Opposition members were suspended for the rest of the Budget session for their behavior.
