The investigation into the Lamborghini crash on VIP Road, Kanpur, took a sharp turn on February 10, 2026. Shivam Mishra’s lawyer, Mrityunjay Kumar, insisted that Shivam Mishra was not driving the car when it hit pedestrians. He claimed the family’s driver, Mohan, was behind the wheel instead. "The car was being driven by the driver, not by Shivam Mishra. We will present the facts and evidence before the court," said Mr. Kumar, stressing the incident should be treated as an accident, not a crime. However, Kanpur Police rejected this claim. Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed that evidence, including CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, proves Mishra was driving. "An FIR may sometimes contain incorrect or incomplete details initially. During the investigation, Shivam Mishra's involvement was confirmed through evidence, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts," Mr. Lal told PTI. Senior police officers pointed to videos showing bystanders pulling a man believed to be Shivam Mishra out of the driver’s seat right after the crash. Deputy Commissioner Atul Kumar Srivastava said, "CCTV footage from the site identifies the person pulled out of the vehicle as Mr. Mishra. What an advocate argues in court does not affect our investigation. If the court seeks any clarification, all facts will be placed before it." Police tried to serve a notice at Mishra's Arya Nagar home but couldn’t establish contact. The FIR was initially filed against an unidentified driver but later updated to name Shivam Mishra. The Lamborghini Revuelto, worth over ₹10 crore, was seized for forensic checks. The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. in Kanpur’s upscale Gwaltoli area. SHO Santosh Gaur was suspended and sent to police lines following the incident. Shivam Mishra is the son of K.K. Mishra, owner of Banshidhar Exports Pvt. Ltd., who is under Income Tax Department scrutiny for tax issues.
