February 11, 2026
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Sharanabasappa Kyatanal on Tuesday said that Albendazole tablets can be safely given to children aged 1 to 19 years. This is part of a program to stop malnutrition, anaemia, and intestinal worms. He spoke at the National Deworming Day event at Jeevan Prakash School in Kalaburagi. The event was organized by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health Department, and Reproductive and Child Health wing.
Dr. Kyatanal said, “The medicine is completely safe and does not cause any harm to children. Parents should ensure that their children consume the tablet without fear.” He stressed that misunderstandings about the drug caused unnecessary worries.
District RCH Officer Siddu Patil added that 9,98,205 children and teenagers from 1 to 19 years will get the tablets. Children aged 2-5 years will receive one 400 mg tablet; those aged 6-14 years will get two tablets; and adolescents above 15 years will get three tablets as per guidelines.
The tablets will be provided at anganwadis, schools, colleges, and also to kids not attending school, to make sure no one misses out. During the event, students took a pledge and awareness posters were released.
Many officials and staff attended, including School Headmaster Amareshwar Sheeli, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education Suresh Akkanna, District Surveillance Officer Rakesh Kamble, and others from health and education departments.
