The UAE has announced shorter working hours for public and private employees during the holy month of Ramadan. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed that federal ministries and entities will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Fridays. This schedule excludes employees whose jobs require different timings. The authority added that flexible work may continue during Ramadan if daily hours are met. They clarified, "Federal entities may grant employees flexibility to work remotely on Fridays," but remote work must not exceed 70 per cent of the workforce and must follow rules. For the private sector, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced a two-hour reduction in daily working hours throughout Ramadan. Typically, private sector workers put in eight to nine hours daily, but this will be cut by two during Ramadan. Companies may use flexible or remote work setups that suit their operations, said the ministry. Importantly, "Any additional hours worked beyond the reduced Ramadan schedule will be treated as overtime." Overtime work will get extra pay as per labour laws. Both sectors get flexibility to support employees' needs during Ramadan while keeping businesses and government services running smoothly. The changes respect the spiritual and social nature of the holy month without causing disruption.
