China’s anti-corruption agencies have raised fresh alerts for Communist Party officials. Ahead of a major leadership reshuffle in 2027, cadres are told to avoid ‘political swindlers’—people who falsely claim top links to sell promotions for cash. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, National Supervisory Commission, and the Organisation Department issued the joint warning on Thursday, according to state news agency Xinhua. They stated, “Corruption and malpractice in the promotion and appointment of officials have not been eradicated, some problems pose a risk of resurgence, and some potential harm to the leadership transition has not been completely eliminated.” This comes as the Party’s Central Committee, its highest executive body of nearly 370 members, prepares to end its current five-year term at the national congress in autumn 2027. Tighter discipline and stronger scrutiny of officials will be key in safeguarding the leadership change process.
