The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won a landslide victory in Bangladesh’s first elections since the 2024 student-led uprising. This election marks a major political shift in the country. World powers including the United States, China, India, and Pakistan all praised the election process, showing rare international unity. However, questions remain inside Bangladesh. Young people who led the 2024 protests for change are watching closely. They want to see real progress but worry about what political hurdles the BNP might face. Presenter Maleen Saeed discussed these issues with three guests: Shahab Enam Khan, a professor of international relations at Bangladesh University of Professionals; Prapti Taposhi, an activist and first-time voter; and Sohela Nazneen, a senior research fellow at the UK’s Institute of Development Studies. They explored what the BNP’s victory means and the challenges ahead for Bangladesh’s new government.
