Train services in Italy were hit by another suspected sabotage on Saturday, causing delays of over an hour amid the 2026 Winter Olympics. Services between Naples and Rome, as well as the route north to Florence, were affected. This follows previous sabotage incidents earlier this month. Italy’s Transport Minister Matteo Salvini condemned the attacks, calling them "hateful criminal acts aimed at workers and at Italy." He added, "I hope that no one plays down or tries to justify these crimes which put lives at risk." Authorities are investigating burned cables on the high-speed line between Rome and Naples and two other acts of possible vandalism between Rome and Florence. An anarchist group had claimed responsibility for an earlier attack near Bologna on the opening day of the games, which caused delays of up to two and a half hours to various rail services. The Winter Olympics are being held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6 to 22.
