Hong Kong Man Loses Nearly All HK$170,000 Hair Transplant Hairs Within a Year
February 16, 2026
A man in Hong Kong paid HK$170,000 (US$22,000) for a hair transplant that promised results lasting more than six years. However, he lost nearly all of the first 1,000 artificial hair strands within a year, the Consumer Council said. The man had two treatment sessions with the company. After the second, he suffered scalp inflammation, with redness and soreness. The clinic admitted the inflammation but refused to refund him. Instead, they offered scalp care services eight months later. They said the man failed to clean the implanted hair properly and did not use free scalp care services, which they said made his condition worse. The Consumer Council highlighted this case while warning the public about exaggerated claims from hair transplant companies. Complaints about hair transplant, hair growth, and scalp care services rose from 2023 to 2025. The Council stresses caution and advises consumers to watch out for false promises and poor treatment results.
