KARACHI: A large fire erupted on Monday in bushes near the University of Karachi (KU). Mobina Town police confirmed the blaze started near the university. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan said the fire call came around 4:00 pm. Initially, two fire trucks were sent. But strong winds and dry bushes made the fire spread rapidly, reaching a plant nursery close to the university. Khan said four more fire tenders were dispatched to control the dangerous blaze. Eventually, the fire was extinguished. Since the bushes were far from buildings, no casualties happened. Khan also mentioned that Rescue 1122 recently improved one fire tender at the university and urged its use in emergencies to stop fires from spreading. He recalled a similar serious fire in the same area months ago that killed a man living in a temporary hut.
