February 16, 2026
Parents and relatives of Sayyed Toushik, a Class 6 student who died under suspicious conditions at a coaching centre in Singarayakonda on February 14, protested outside the Collectorate in Ongole on Monday. They demanded the arrest of the coaching centre management. The protest blocked traffic for nearly three hours. Police did not arrive for an hour. Later, a woman constable allegedly tried to drag the boy’s mother from the protest. Local Dalit leaders condemned the police action and joined the protest. Student unions SFI, RSU, and NSY also showed support. Prakasam District Revenue Officer China Obulesu and Ongole DSP Rayapati Srinivasa Rao met the protesters. DSP said, "Action will be taken against the accused based on the post-mortem report." He ordered the removal of Singarayakonda SI Mahendra from the case and named a new officer to investigate. Meanwhile, Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) demanded the Education Minister and School Education Commissioner intervene immediately. PAAP wants either an impartial judicial inquiry or a special committee of senior officials to probe the case. PAAP president S. Narahari said, "The administrators and responsible staff of the coaching centre should be arrested immediately and punished severely. The Deputy DEO should conduct an investigation and cancel the recognition of this coaching centre." The authorities continue to investigate the incident.
