Gas Leak Explosion at Boonville Church Injures Five, Investigation Underway

An explosion at Abundant Life Fellowship Church on State Route 12, Boonville, New York, injured five people. New York State police began investigating after first responders arrived at 10:23 AM following reports of a gas smell inside the church. Witnesses confirmed they smelled gas before the blast. "A Boonville firefighter was inside the building during the response when the blast occurred," said a police statement to Newsweek. Two victims—the firefighter and one civilian—are in critical condition. Three others have non-life-threatening injuries. The church was catastrophically damaged and considered destroyed. Officials noted, "There was no indication of criminal activity," adding that the building was heated using propane cylinders. A church statement revealed the pastor and another member had contacted a propane company to report a gas leak before the explosion and were among the injured. Authorities are continuing the investigation as police and fire officials work at the site.
