Imran Khan’s Medical Care Sparks Political Clash in Pakistan
February 19, 2026
A political fight has erupted over the medical care of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Pakistan. On Tuesday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi accused Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, of delaying his medical checkup for three days to "do politics" over his health. Naqvi said, "Almost all political leaders were on board, but Aleema Khan sahiba vetoed them." He claimed her demands for special treatment kept focus on Khan’s poor health.
However, the opposition TTAP alliance called these statements "blatantly misleading and contrary to the facts." Some PTI leaders seemed to partially agree with the minister’s version.
Khan’s sisters held a press conference to dispute the government’s claims. They said their brother was "not fine" and that he was denied timely treatment for his eye condition raised three months ago. They also accused the government of breaking promises to move Khan to a private hospital and allow family-chosen doctors to visit.
The truth remains unclear as PTI members disagree on how best to handle Khan’s health. Some trust the government to care for him, while others want direct family supervision.
The government has faced criticism for poor management and initial denial of Khan's health issues. It only admitted the problem after news of his hospital visit leaked. This poor communication has caused the family to distrust the authorities.
Experts say the government must be transparent and respect the family’s requests. They also emphasize that Khan’s sons should be allowed to visit him. Health care must not become a tool for political fights.
