Dressed up fully as scientist Nambi Narayanan for his film 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,' Madhavan was stunned when Modi spotted him instantly and asked about the movie’s progress. Imagine that — heavy makeup, a beard, and yet the Prime Minister recognised him right away! Madhavan, who has known Modi since the latter's Gujarat Chief Minister days, recalled the event soon after his film 'Uri' was released. Modi had visited the Film Chambers where many from the film industry gathered to meet him. While everyone was eager for pictures, Madhavan’s look was completely different – all thanks to his role as Narayanan, the celebrated ISRO scientist. “I genuinely doubted whether Modi ji would even recognize me,” Madhavan wrote. The film 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,' released in 2022, was Madhavan’s directorial debut. It tells the inspiring yet painful story of Nambi Narayanan, a top ISRO scientist wrongly accused of spying in the 1990s. After being cleared, Narayanan became a symbol of India’s space achievements and scientific struggles. Madhavan spent years shaping the film to make sure this heroic tale reached everyone.
