UAE Launches Golden Visa for Superyacht Owners and Maritime Execs with 10-Year Residency
November 29, 2025
The UAE has expanded its Golden Visa program to include a unique category for superyacht owners and key maritime professionals. Starting in December 2024, owners of yachts 40 metres or longer, maritime executives, yacht builders, agents, and service providers can apply for a 10-year residency permit.
This move aims to make the UAE a top global luxury yachting hub, attracting ultra-high-net-worth individuals and growing the marine economy. It supports both Abu Dhabi's Golden Quay initiative and Dubai's version announced at the Dubai International Boat Show 2025.
Golden Visa holders enjoy benefits such as tax advantages, work and residency flexibility without local sponsorship, family sponsorships, and access to world-class infrastructure. They can also travel visa-free within GCC countries and may pursue citizenship after 30 years.
Owning a qualifying superyacht requires a minimum investment of $5 million for pre-owned vessels or $15–25 million for new builds. Annual costs are high, including crew salaries up to $600,000, maintenance exceeding $2 million, insurance, fuel, and docking fees.
Applications in Abu Dhabi are nomination-based through official partners like Yas Marina. Dubai welcomes direct applications via GDRFA and ICP portals, offering streamlined yacht movement through its Mobile Marina service.
Documents needed include proof of yacht ownership, technical specifications, registration, and family papers for dependents.
This latest addition reflects the UAE's goal to diversify its economy beyond oil, rewarding talent, innovation, and global wealth. The superyacht Golden Visa places holders in an elite circle, boosting UAE's status as the Middle East's premier yachting destination.
