Tamil Nadu Rescues 177 from Cyclone Ditwah-hit Sri Lanka; CM Stalin Pledges Relief Support

On November 30, 2025, 177 people stranded in cyclone Ditwah-hit Sri Lanka were brought safely back to Tamil Nadu. The group included 60 women and four children. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed deep condolences for the over 100 lives lost and severe damage caused by the cyclone. "Neighbouring Sri Lanka has witnessed a massive disaster due to cyclone Ditwah. The Sri Lankan people are suffering, as more than a hundred people have died and several areas have been severely affected," Mr. Stalin said. He added, "While expressing deep condolences to those who have died in the natural disaster, the people of Tamil Nadu stand by the people of Sri Lanka in their huge suffering." Mr. Stalin stated that the Tamil Nadu government is prepared to aid Sri Lanka by providing relief materials such as food and medicines. He has instructed Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam to form a committee that will work with the Government of India to coordinate these relief efforts. The Tamil Nadu government stands ready to support its neighbouring country during this tough time.
