The Coimbatore City Police arrested three men from Uttar Pradesh linked to serial burglaries in Kavundampalayam. They shot the suspects in their right legs during arrest near Kuniyamuthur. One suspect, I. Asif, 45, died at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital around 11 a.m. Sunday despite treatment. Authorities will conduct a post-mortem to determine the cause of death. The other two suspects, Kallu Arif, 60, and A. Irfan, 48, are being treated in the same hospital. Police said they fired after the suspects attacked a constable with a sickle while trying to escape. The trio came to Coimbatore on November 27, invited by two other UP men selling utensils locally. They stayed with 10 others in a rented house at B.K. Pudur. On Friday, they burgled 13 flats in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board complex at Kavundampalayam. Theft included 42 sovereigns of gold, 500 grams of silver jewelry, and about ₹1.5 lakh cash. Surveillance cameras helped police trace the suspects to their B.K. Pudur residence, leading to their arrest on Saturday.
