On Sunday, November 30, 2025, police recovered a decomposed body from a forest near Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) in Kalamassery. The body is suspected to be Suraj Lama, a 58-year-old man from Bengaluru, missing since October. The remains are believed to be at least one-and-a-half months old. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) found the body after tracing Lama's last known location via CCTV footage. Police say the clothes and belongings found match Lama's description. Aluva DySP R. Rajesh confirmed that Lama's family has been informed and will arrive in Kochi soon. Official identity confirmation will follow after relatives' identification and scientific tests. The Kalamassery police have registered a case regarding the body. Lama was deported from Kuwait on October 5 after an alleged alcohol-poisoning incident. His son had filed a habeas corpus petition after Lama went missing in Kochi on October 10. Reports say Lama, who had memory loss, was taken into custody by Thrikkakara police on October 8, moved to a hospital in Kalamassery, and then disappeared. The High Court had earlier ordered a Home Ministry probe into how Lama arrived at the Cochin airport after emigration clearance.
