The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested Olavanna village officer Ullas Raman N.K. in Kozhikode for allegedly taking a ₹50,000 bribe on Saturday. This marks the third successful trap by VACB in as many days. Earlier, an assistant from Vengoor West village in Ernakulam and a temple sub-group officer in Alappuzha were caught accepting bribes of ₹5,000 each. So far this year, VACB has recorded 52 trap cases, with nearly 70% accused being government employees. Most of the cases involve officials from the Revenue department (19 cases), Local Self-Government (10), Kerala Police (6), Excise (3), and others (11). VACB director Manoj Abraham said, "The bureau has compiled a list of officials facing serious corruption allegations and placed them under close surveillance." He added that all vigilance units were ordered to focus sharply on bribery cases and strengthen anti-corruption efforts. In the latest case, Ullas Raman N.K. allegedly demanded a ₹10,000 per cent bribe for land conversion formalities on 1.62 acres. When the complainant said he could not pay so much, the officer lowered the total bribe demand to ₹8 lakh but insisted on ₹50,000 upfront. The complainant then went to VACB. The officers arrested Ullas Raman on the spot. He was later brought before the Kozhikode Vigilance Court.
