In Maharashtra's Nanded district, a 21-year-old woman named Aanchal Mamidwar showed her deep love for her boyfriend Saksham Tate by 'marrying' his dead body. Saksham, 20, was allegedly shot by Aanchal's brother Himesh Mamidwar after a fight on November 27. The bullet hit Saksham's ribs, and he was killed on the spot after being hit on the head. Police arrested Himesh, his brother Sahil (25), and their father Gajanan (45) soon after. On November 28, while Saksham's family prepared for his last rites, Aanchal performed a marriage ritual with his body. Eyewitnesses say she did this to make their love 'immortal.' Speaking to reporters, Aanchal demanded the death penalty for her father and brothers. She said, "I was in love with Saksham for the past three years but my father opposed our relationship over caste differences. My family often threatened to kill Saksham and now my father and brothers Himesh and Sahil have done it. I want justice. I want the accused to be hanged." Aanchal also stated she plans to live in Saksham’s house from now on.
