Burglars broke into the house of former MP and State Government’s Special Representative in Delhi, A.K.S. Vijayan, in Thanjavur. They stole 87 sovereigns of gold jewellery, police said on Monday. Mr. Vijayan, a DMK leader, was elected MP from Nagapattinam three times. His wife Jothimani and daughter live in the Thanjavur house near the new bus stand. The house was locked since November 28 when his wife and daughter went to Sithamalli. On Monday morning, they returned to find the house burgled. The burglars broke open an iron cupboard and took the jewellery. Police believe the burglars targeted the home after seeing it was locked for two days. On Mr. Vijayan's complaint, Thanjavur Tamil University Police visited the spot and launched an investigation. Fingerprint experts collected evidence from the house. A sniffer dog was also used. District Superintendent of Police R. Rajaram reviewed the investigation. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to catch the culprits.
