A petition has been filed in a court in Indore against IAS officer Santosh Kumar Verma after his remarks on reservation and the Brahmin community caused uproar. Lawyer Shailendra Dwivedi asked the Judicial Magistrate First Class to direct police to register an FIR against Verma. He called the officer's statement "vulgar, obscene and cheap." At a state event on November 23 in Bhopal, Verma said, "Reservation should continue until a Brahmin gives away his daughter to my son, or (she) has a relationship with him, if it’s only about the economic aspect." He was appointed the new State president of the M.P. Anusuchit Jati-Janjati Adhikari Evam Karmachari Sangh at the event. Verma later apologised and explained that "giving away" meant "kanyadaan," a Hindu marriage ritual, referring to inter-caste relationships promoting social bonds. However, Brahmin groups protested, saying the remarks insulted women. They demanded FIR and disciplinary action. The State Government also issued a show-cause notice, stating Verma's comments "prima facie" harmed social harmony and amounted to indiscipline and serious misconduct. Lawyer Dwivedi said, "I come from the Brahmin community and am deeply hurt by Santosh Verma’s offensive statements about my community. I request the court to order the police to register a case against him under the relevant legal provisions and submit an investigation report." The court set December 4 for the plea hearing.
