Bengaluru Couple Nabbed with ₹18.6 Crore Hydro Ganja at Airport
December 4, 2025
A Bengaluru couple working as drug mules was arrested for smuggling 18 kg of hydro ganja worth ₹18.6 crore into the city through Kempegowda International Airport. The narcotics were hidden inside nine food packets carried in their backpacks. The duo, Shafiuddin Sheikh, a car mechanic, and his wife Sara Simran from Kammanahalli, returned from Bangkok on tourist visas with the drugs. Police caught them on November 30, 2025, just hours after their arrival, before they could deliver the drugs to their handlers.
The police revealed that the couple had no criminal record and were offered free travel, accommodation, and extra money to carry the drugs. Despite strict Customs checks during heightened security before New Year, the couple managed to slip through. Authorities acted on intelligence to track and arrest them.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Mary Shailaja’s team seized two mobile phones from the couple and is analyzing call records to uncover more network members. The couple faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and is under 10-day police custody.
City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh praised the police team, highlighting that Bengaluru police have seized drugs worth ₹160 crore this year alone.
