A 59-year-old primary school principal, Sadhna Verma, died of a heart attack at her home on Thursday during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Aligarh district. She had been serving as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) since November 4 and completed her duties on time in Haivatpur Fagoi village, Koli tehsil. Her son, Chetan, said her death was not linked to BLO duties but to "intense pressure" from her vice-principal and Education Department officials who harassed her. He also claimed she had not received her salary for five months, which caused severe stress. Basic Shiksha Adhikari Rakesh Kumar confirmed a three-member panel will investigate and said vice-principal Pooja Choudhry has been suspended pending inquiry over allegations of mental harassment. Uttar Pradesh has recently seen several deaths and suicides among BLOs due to overwork and stress, including a teacher who died on December 2 in Hathras and a BLO who died by suicide on November 30 in Moradabad. Both cases again cited pressure related to the SIR electoral work.
