Arecanut Imports from LDECs Drop 34% After Price Hike to Protect Indian Farmers

India's arecanut imports from Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Bhutan dropped sharply from 32,238 tonnes in 2022-23 to 21,160 tonnes in 2024-25. This fall follows a Minimum Import Price hike from ₹251/kg to ₹351/kg to protect local farmers and maintain prices, says Union Minister Jitin Prasada.
